Are Tieks Ballet Flats Worth the Hype? A Real Life Review

Recently one of our lovely readers saw me wearing Tieks at the DC Zoo on Tonya’s Instagram and requested a review of them. I’m happy to give a review because as someone who admittedly does not love wearing heels, I’m very particular about my flats. And I love ballet flats because they’re chic and timeless. When it comes to stylish, foldable flats that promise all-day comfort, Tieks are often the first brand that comes to mind. These ballet flats have developed a bit of a cult following—and with their signature turquoise soles and impressive price tag, it’s not hard to see why they spark curiosity. But are they really worth the investment?

After owning (and walking in) a pair for several months, I’m breaking down everything you need to know before you splurge.

First Impressions

Tieks arrive in the mail beautifully packaged. The box is small, colorful, and topped with a coordinating flower—details that make the unboxing feel special. The flats themselves are buttery soft straight out of the box. Made of 100% Italian leather, they’re designed to fold in half for easy portability.

Comfort Level

Right away, the comfort is noticeable. The leather molds to your feet over time, and the cushioned insoles offer support that most flats lack. The non-slip rubber soles also provide surprising traction, whether you’re walking through an airport or navigating city sidewalks.

That said, some people experience a break-in period—especially with patent leather versions—so be prepared to give them a few wears to fully adjust. Fortunately I did not need a break-in period, and they are easily the most comfortable flats I own.

Style Factor

Tieks have a simple, classic round toe but they come in a wide range of colors and finishes, from classic matte black to metallics and snakeskin prints. I typically prefer a pointed or cap toe on my flats, but these are versatile enough to wear with everything from jeans to dresses, and they still add a polished touch to casual outfits. I love the hint of signature turquoise peaking out from underneath when walking.

Portability

One of the best things about Tieks is how portable they are. You can fold them into a small pouch (included in every box) and toss them in your bag as a backup shoe. This makes them ideal for travel, long workdays, or events where you’ll want to swap your heels for something more forgiving.

The Price Tag

Let’s address the elephant in the room: Tieks range from about $185 to over $300 depending on the style. That’s a serious investment for a pair of flats. But if you’re looking for a high-quality, durable option that feels as good as it looks, many wearers feel the price is justified.

Are They Worth It?

If you spend a lot of time on your feet, value both style and comfort, or just love the idea of a luxury flat that travels well, Tieks are a solid choice. They’re not cheap, but they hold up beautifully with proper care—and like me, you just might find yourself reaching for them more than any other flats in your closet.

Have you tried Tieks? I’d love to hear your thoughts and favorites in the comments!

Xo,

Courtney

  3. yikes, these are expensive, but as you noted – sometimes you get what you pay for and if they offer cushion support and also last – it really could be worth it.
Also, the travel bag they come with is a nice thing to have –
    enjoyed your quick review

    1. Thanks so much for reading! I totally hear you — the price gave me pause at first too. But after trying them, I can say the comfort and support really do make a difference, especially if you’re on your feet a lot. And yes, that travel bag was such a nice bonus! Glad you enjoyed the review!

      1. They also look like they spent some time making the supportive bottoms- and you are right – when spending a lot of time on your feet is when you can what kind of support your shoes actually give…. and so a lot to offer here 🙂
