Have you watched the HBO Max hit The Penguin yet? I recently watched this crime drama series (based on the DC Comics villain) with my husband. I came in with low expectations- he’s the bigger DC fan and dark and gritty shows aren’t usually my thing, but I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. First of all, Colin Farrell as the Penguin is a jaw dropping transformation and his performance was amazing. But while I expected a dark show centered solely on the male anti-hero, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much a strong female protagonist became central to the plot as well. Cristin Milioti was incredible as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of a mob boss turned mob boss herself. While the plot was riveting, I also couldn’t help noticing Sofia’s style transformation as her character evolved. Everything was so well chosen to evoke the mob boss aesthetic, and the more comfortable and confident she became the more risks she took with fashion. I think of her style as a more rebellious, femme-fatale version of the mob wife aesthetic that’s been popular for the last couple of years. This dark and glam aesthetic can be fun to lean into during the holiday party season and throughout the winter. Here’s our guide to dressing like Sofia:

Sofia’s version of the mob boss aesthetic involves combining luxe textures like silk and fur with powerful and feminine silhouettes. Her coat is a custom piece, but the Rumored Madonna faux fur coat has rave reviews and is perfect for the holiday party season. She’s also wearing the Fleur du Mal lace trimmed slip dress in this scene. The Reformation Provence silk dress is another stunning lace trimmed slip dress.

Although black is the dominant color in Sofia’s wardrobe, she frequently pairs it with bold jewel tones and elaborate prints like this jacket and skirt by Shuting Qiu. They’re almost sold out but you can channel this look with this bold jacquard blazer or this gorgeous and eclectic layered dress by Stine Goya.

Sofia channels the femme fatale look through her accessories as well. Bold red accents and sky high platform heels are a must. Her David Koma Tulle Scarf mini dress is sold out, but the Majorelle Arcella mini dress features a red satin panel for a similar vibe. You can also pair a silk or satin scarf with your favorite LBD. Christian Louboutin Mary Jane pumps are perfect for Sofia, but these Larroude Emma pumps are also feminine, sexy, and powerful.

Sofia is not afraid to wear bold prints. Her vintage Celine zebra print coat is certainly an eye catching piece, especially paired with this red suit. You can turn your outerwear into a conversation piece with any of these chic jackets.

I won’t give you any real spoilers in case you haven’t seen the show yet, but let’s just say that the scene where Sofia wore this stunning Christopher John Rogers chartreuse dress is iconic. The entire episode was one of the best episodes I’ve seen in a tv series recently. This dress has already inspired Halloween and cosplay costumes. It’s sold out, but here are some similar evening gowns.

Christopher John Rogers also recently produced a lovely collection for J.Crew, and there are a few pieces that really channel Sofia’s aesthetic like this vinyl skirt and matching coat.

When channeling Sofia’s style, you can never have too many slip dresses. This gorgeous Rodarte leopard slip dress is sold out but here are a few slip dress options that feature this timeless print.

Sofia’s style at the end of the season is a masterclass in bold, monochromatic looks. Pair a statement coat with tights and pumps in the same shade for an outfit that exudes confidence and style.

Dressing like Sofia Falcone isn’t just about the clothes—it’s about the attitude. Her look is a mix of sophistication, danger, and confidence. Let your outfit tell a story of power and mystery and embrace bold fashion choices without overcomplicating the look. By following these tips, you’ll channel Sofia Falcone’s captivating style and make a statement wherever you go. Whether it’s for a holiday party or just embracing a powerful and feminine look for the season, her wardrobe will have you feeling like a true Gotham power player.
