5 Things You Can Do to Improve Your Attitude and Ensure Your Success

thumbs-up

The other day while scrolling through my social media feed, I came across a quote picture that said “We all have the same 24 hours each day!” Under the picture the woman who posted it listed all of the amazing things that she accomplishes each day. I have to be honest, my first reaction was a slight eye roll. It’s easy to find that type of thing slightly annoying or dismiss it as boasting, but the truth is she’s right!

There are certainly people who always seize the day and have achieved a level of success because of it. So what makes those people different from the rest of us? How are they extraordinary and not ordinary? If I had to answer it simply (and you know how much I love simplicity) I would say its attitude!

“Whether, you think you can or you think you can’t you’re right!” Henry Ford

I tell several stories in my book about people who told me I couldn’t do certain things as a single mom. I could have just believed them and accepted my mediocre fate but I am way too optimistic for that. I tend to subscribe to a Can Do philosophy but I’m human of course, and have occasional flashes of self-doubt just like anyone else.

When I have these moments of self-doubt, I try to remind myself that attitude is everything. If you think about it, in the uncertain world that we live in it’s one of the only things we really can control. We get to pick our attitude. Picking your attitude doesn’t mean you don’t acknowledge that things didn’t go as planned or that you walk around with rose colored glasses on, even though that might be kind of cool, what it means is that you believe in the power of choice.

Here are some things that successful people do help them choose positivity

They are intentional– Focus on solutions. Successful people focus on action taking instead of complaining. Acknowledge the problem, then brainstorm ways to tackle it. A colleague once told me “you never complain!” -Sure I do! It just sounds different because I try to focus on solutions instead of dwelling on the current state of the dilemma. Think differently!

They are passionate– Whether it’s a career, a hobby or a sport that they play, successful people always have something that they are passionate about! Create a vision board to help. http://m.huffpost.come/us/entry/the-scientific-reason-why_b_6392274.html. Find your passion!

They affirm themselves– Positive self-talk is great! The voice you hear most often is your own. If you need a kick-start, begin a gratitude journal and use sticky notes to post positive affirmations. I keep my affirmations on my computer at work. Focus on the positives!

They take their health seriously– there is definitely a mind body connection and a negative attitude can affect your health. It literally weakens your immune system. Exercise improves your overall health and releases feel good endorphins. Exercise routinely!

They hang out with positive people- Misery does “Love Company” but it doesn’t improve your situation any. Find people that inspire and motivate you. Like attracts like. The more you are in the company of positivity the more it will rub off on you too! Expand your inner circle!
