Elevated Athleisure Outfits for Spring

When I plan outfits for spring events, there’s nothing I love more than a classic button down, a romantic top, or a feminine dress. But when it comes to clothing that really supports my day to day lifestyle, athleisure is a key part of my wardrobe arsenal. I love being able to move through my day with comfort and ease. And even if you aren’t chasing after small kids like I am, athleisure can be a great choice if comfort is a top priority, if you work from home, or if you work out a lot. Last winter, I took advantage of Beyond Yoga’s end of year sales to add to my athleisure capsule. But I try to style these pieces in a way that feels like me by mixing them with more structured pieces and taking advantage of matching sets for a little more polish.

Instead of overthinking outfits, I try to think in formulas so I can get my outfits together quickly. Below I’ve listed a few of my go-to combinations that work with any athleisure brand, to make getting dressed effortless and chic.

1. The “Model Off Duty” Formula

Leggings + White Tee + Trench + Sneakers

This is the ultimate elevated athleisure look.

Why it works:

The trench instantly adds structure and polish to an otherwise simple base.

Make it chic:

  • Stick to a crisp white or cream tee
  • Choose matte leggings
  • Add sunglasses + a structured tote

2. The “Effortless Set” Formula

Matching Set + Lightweight Layer

Matching sets do the work for you.

Why it works:

Monochrome always looks intentional—even when it’s comfortable.

Layer it with:

  • A trench or structured jacket
  • An oversized button-down
  • A light cardigan or wrap top
  • A slightly cropped long sleeve top or sweatshirt
  • A matching activewear jacket that takes the set from 2 pieces to 3

3. The “Soft Structure” Formula

Leggings + Ribbed Tank + Cardigan

This is your everyday, slightly feminine athleisure look.

Why it works:

The cardigan softens the sporty base.

Elevate it with:

  • A fitted or slightly cropped cardigan
  • Neutral tones or soft pastels
  • Simple gold jewelry

4. The “Sporty Chic” Formula

Bike Shorts + Oversized Button down + Sneakers

Why it works:

The oversized shirt balances the fitted silhouette of the shorts.

Style tip:

  • Leave the shirt slightly unbuttoned
  • Add a sleek bun or ponytail
  • Finish with clean sneakers

5. The “Polished Errands” Formula

Joggers + Fitted Top + Structured Coat

This is how you make joggers feel intentional.

Why it works:

The contrast between relaxed pants and structured outerwear creates balance.

Make it feel elevated:

  • Choose tapered joggers
  • Stick to a fitted top
  • Add a coat or tailored jacket

6. The “Layered Minimalist” Formula

Leggings + Lightweight Knit + Shoulders Layer

A subtle but impactful styling trick.

Why it works:

The extra layer adds dimension and that “effortless but styled” feel.

Key detail:

Use a lightweight knit for easy draping. Keep the palette cohesive.

7. The “Rainy Spring” Formula

Leggings + Hoodie + Trench + Sneakers

Practical, but still polished.

Why it works:

Layering a hoodie under a trench feels modern and functional.

Upgrade it:

  • Choose a neutral hoodie
  • Keep everything streamlined
  • Add a sleek bag instead of a gym tote

The Elevated Athleisure Rules

Balance is everything: fitted + relaxed, sporty + structured. Stick to a cohesive color palette. Prioritize fabric and fit. Add one polished element like a coat, bag, or jewelry. Keep sneakers clean and minimal.

With a few simple formulas, you can turn everyday basics into outfits that feel intentional, polished, and completely effortless.
