Seaside Sophistication: Embracing Nantucket Style This Season

The other day, my younger daughter and I took a quick weekend getaway to Washington D.C for her birthday (though it ended up being an early Mother’s Day treat when Courtney and her beautiful family joined us on the last day, too).

At the start of our stay, we popped over to Georgetown for lunch and shopping and then headed down to The Wharf. The new Wharf (if you haven’t been) has been completely revamped with extended piers that boast boardwalk swings and plenty of seating. Rows of waterfront restaurants and shops line the scenic water-facing cobblestone streets. It has that transportive quality to it that takes you out of the city and makes you want to don your sunhat and board one of the many yachts lining the harbor.

The whole experience made me think of going a little further north. The Northeast is known for its beaches that stretch the coastline from New York to Maine. Courtney and I have been thinking about planning a large family trip to Martha’s Vineyard for quite a while, but Nantucket is also a bucket list item for me. There’s something timelessly charming about Nantucket — cobblestone streets, weathered shingle cottages, and that signature sea breeze. It’s no surprise the island has inspired a fashion aesthetic that’s clean, coastal, and quietly luxurious.

What Is Nantucket Style?

Nantucket fashion blends East Coast preppy tradition with effortless summer polish. Think:

  • Crisp white linens
  • Faded pastels and sea-washed hues
  • Nautical stripes and relaxed tailoring
  • Woven accessories and understated elegance

This is fashion that transitions from the harbor to happy hour with ease. You may already have most of these items in your closet but we’ve linked some inspiration below.
