Single Mom Chic’s Spring Hit List

I love the newness of spring and the possibilities that lie ahead. Winter gives me a chance to regroup and refresh and then spring gently launches me into what lies ahead for the rest of the year.

If you’ve been following along with the blog you know I try (and sometimes fail) at minimalism but I do embrace the idea of a capsule wardrobe where I keep a few of my favorite things in my closet each season. I rotate out the wardrobe twice a year and add a few new items each season. I usually post a spring wish list and add a few updates to my wardrobe, but this year I decided to extend my favorite things beyond clothing items since I am not going to add much this spring.

I do have an uber exciting mom and daughter trip planned to San Diego this summer. I plan to update my summer wardrobe instead and write a post about packing for a vacay soon. So while we await the travel post, let’s take a look  at a few of the things I’m feeling this spring:

Beauty Hits

Rebel Lipstick MAC +MAC Highlighter

Okay, those of you have read anything I have posted about beauty know I have a slight obsession for beauty products. It’s probably the only area where I don’t even try to restrain myself and embrace a more minimalist style. I am particularly obsessed with Lipstick (you can read my lipstick tag here for more evidence of my neurosis). However, whether you are lipstick obsessed or not you can’t go wrong with this little beauty. Rebel somehow looks good on everyone! I know there are a lot of products that make that claim, and as someone with a good share of melanin I can attest that most colors don’t cross over between the fairest of them all and those kissed twice by the sun goddess. This one actually does deliver. My favorite thing about this color is that it truly lights up your face and you don’t really need anything else. One good swipe and you’re done.

Speaking of not needing a product and of lighting up your face, I am moved to share one of my newest obsessions. I will admit I am so late to the highlighting party that it might not even be worth mentioning here as many of you having been using it for years, but if you are like me and didn’t really think you needed highlighter Ive got news for you.. you don’t! But, highlighter isn’t something you need. It’s something you want. It truly does make your cheekbones pop and light up your eyes. Who knew? I guess a million beauty bloggers….but I digress. If you are looking to amp up your look give this stuff a try.  Oh, and use it sparingly or you might end up looking like a Cullen.

Farmhouse Fresh Body OilI stumbled across this little ditty at my massage therapy studio-This stuff is Ah-mazing! It’s a natural, vegan body oil that smooths perfectly into your freshly showered skin. It’s an oil of course but unlike others I’ve tried it absorbs well and doesn’t leave an oily residue that ends up all over your clothing. And the scents are heavenly!

Accessory Hits

Rebecca Minkoff +Honey Shea Studios

I have an affinity for handbags and a small collection to boot. I typically don’t purchase them very often as I like high quality bags and therefore only add one every few years. My oldest daughter introduced me to Rebecca Minkoff’s handbags a few months ago and Ive already added two bags to my collection. I am absolutely obsessed with this line. Her bags are functional, beautiful, and moderately priced. I’ve been looking for the perfect crossbody bag for years.  They are the perfect bag for wearing out on the town. Many crossbody bags are all function, no beauty, (way too much like the dreaded fanny pack for my taste) or they carry such a high price point that you feel like you’d have to give up a kidney to own one. Sometimes they meet the beauty and price point requirements but are so tiny you have to be young enough to only need to carry lipgloss and your ID. #SorryNotSorry but at over 40 Im going to need to carry a few more things to make my days or nights magical. These bags are really the crosspoint of beauty +function and this one is large enough for all the things an…uhum 40 +year old needs.

I also picked up this Wonder Leo Enveloped Embroidered clutch. It is an absolute work of art and spices up my neutral wardrobe beautifully

Honey Shea Studios-This is a jewelry line after my own heart. Honey Shea makes beautifully crafted handmade jewelry. I love the simplicity of the line and own several pieces. I also love that I can throw on a necklace and never think about it until someone compliments me on the piece (which almost always happens). I don’t mind a statement necklace every now and then but I believe everyday jewelry should be effortless. Jewelry is an area where I stay true to my desire to embrace minimalism.  I recently received this beautiful mixed metal hexagon and I haven’t taken it off in weeks.

Entertainment Hits

Ed Sheeran’s Divide-Unless you have been in exile I am sure you have heard Shape of You playing on repeat from someone’s speaker. If you work with me you will hear the entire album over and over. I guess I am that person. The album is a beautiful eclectic mix. I love that every song has a different sound and it’s one of the few albums I can stream from work without worrying about it being office appropriate. Looking for a good clean sound look no further.

Brown Girl Dreaming– There is nothing new about this book and I am not sure how I missed it. I consider myself well read, but when I received an introductory email from someone with a pretty impressive history of activism she listed as a side note two of her favorite books. I believe that you can tell a lot about a person by what they read so I looked it up. Brown Girl Dreaming is a beautifully written memoir. The author shares through her vivid poetry what it was like growing up as an African American girl in the south during the 60’s and 70’s. It is poignant and eloquent and made my heart flutter. A must read for any woman.

There you have it! All the things that made my hit list for spring. I’d love to hear about what you are loving this season.

Until Next Post,
