The Best Fall Dates, Family Activities & Solo Adventures

The past couple of weeks have been unusually busy for me, and this week I’m preparing to visit my in-laws in NYC and then prep for a family photo shoot and out of town guests. As much as I’m looking forward to those things, I also can’t wait to slow down a bit and lean into the magic of fall here at home. Fall is my favorite season because it’s the season of golden light, cozy layers, and savoring the little things. If you’re looking for some inspo for fun activities to do this season I’ve compiled a list of my favorites. Whether you’re planning a romantic date, a family outing, or even a solo day just for you, this season offers endless opportunities to make memories. Here are the best fall activities for every kind of cozy connection.

1. Apple Picking Adventures

Head to a local orchard for apple picking. For a date, it’s the perfect excuse to stroll hand-in-hand with a basket and sip warm cider together. For families, kids love tasting apples fresh from the tree. Don’t forget to bring home extras for pie-baking later. You can also visit on your own on a quiet weekday, and fill a basket to bake something delicious just for you.

2. Farmers’ Market Stroll

Treat yourself to a market bouquet and a pastry for a perfect slow morning. Or for a cozy daytime date, swap your usual dinner plans for a morning date at the farmers’ market. Sample seasonal treats, pick up fresh bread and artisanal cheeses, and maybe even gather ingredients for a cozy dinner together. With kids, it’s an easy weekend outing that gets everyone outside and trying something new.

3. Backyard Bonfire

Crisp evenings call for crackling fires. Light a fire pit (or candle cluster if you don’t have one), sip tea, and journal by the glow. Couples can make it romantic with mulled wine and blankets, while families can toast marshmallows, tell stories, and sip hot chocolate under the stars. It’s Simple, fun, and cozy.

4. Scenic Fall Hike

Fall is the most beautiful time for a hike, with crisp air and colorful leaves. Bring your headphones or camera and enjoy a mindful, soul-clearing walk. For couples, choose a quiet trail and pack a picnic. Families can keep it light and fun—collect leaves, spot wildlife, and enjoy the crunch of boots on the trail.

5. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

This is a classic fall outing that never loses its charm. Stroll through, choose the prettiest pumpkin, and set up a chic fall vignette at home. Couples can pick pumpkins to carve together for a cozy at-home date night. Families can enjoy hayrides, corn mazes, and farm animals. It also makes for the cutest seasonal photos.

6. Wine Tasting (or Cider Tasting)

For a more elevated solo or couple date, spend the afternoon at a local vineyard or cidery. Enjoy tastings, vineyard views, and maybe bring home a bottle to enjoy later. Families can opt for a cider mill visit instead—fresh donuts and warm apple cider are always a hit.

7. Cozy Movie Marathon

Choose your comfort film, pour a glass of wine, and wrap yourself in your softest blanket. This also makes for a great at-home date night. Families can make it a pajama night, complete with caramel apples and hot cocoa. Either way, it’s an easy way to create seasonal magic indoors.

8. Seasonal Festival Fun

Fall festivals are full of charm—live music, craft booths, hayrides, and delicious food. Wander the festival and savor your favorite treats while enjoying the energy of the season and soaking in the sights and sounds.

9. Stargazing Nights

Grab blankets, make a thermos of hot drinks, and head outside for stargazing. Spend time reflecting. Couples can make it romantic with a shared playlist, while families can turn it into an educational adventure by pointing out constellations together.

10. Baking

Sometimes the coziest days happen right at home. Try a new recipe (pumpkin bread, cookies etc) and enjoy the satisfaction of baking just for yourself. Or couples can turn it into a slow, cozy activity with wine and music, while kids love helping with mixing and decorating.

Fall should be about slowing down and savoring simple joys—whether you’re sharing moments with a partner, making family memories, or giving yourself the gift of solo time, these activities are all about making memories you’ll cherish.
