Best Drugstore Beauty Must-Haves: Chic Looks Without the Splurge

Who says glowing skin and polished beauty have to cost a fortune? The drugstore aisles are filled with affordable treasures that rival luxury brands—and in some cases, outperform them. From skincare staples to makeup heroes, these drugstore beauty must-haves prove you can stay chic without maxing out your budget.

Recently on (Episode 6 of) And Just Like That, there were several shots of Carrie Bradshaw’s medicine cabinet. It set the internet on fire, with people mostly divided into two camps— those who believed the drug store contents were believable and those who didn’t. Honestly, I fall into camp 2, but not because I don’t see value in Drugstore beauty.  I do. And while I do use a few specialty Beauty products, I also love to mix it up. I believe Carrie would, too. Which leads me to this post.

Here are our top picks that deserve a permanent spot in your beauty bag:

1. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

Gentle, non-stripping, and dermatologist-approved, this cleanser is perfect for all skin types—especially dry or sensitive.

Why we love it: Contains ceramides + hyaluronic acid for a soft, hydrated finish.

2. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 55

This cult-favorite sunscreen offers high protection without leaving a greasy finish or white cast.

Why we love it: Lightweight and invisible under makeup.

3. Maybelline Lifter Gloss

A hydrating lip gloss with hyaluronic acid that delivers plump, glassy lips and chic neutral shades.

Why we love it: Dupe for high-end glosses like Fenty and Dior—at a fraction of the price.

4. e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter

A dewy skin enhancer often compared to Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter.

Why we love it: Gives a lit-from-within glow. Wear it alone or under foundation.

5. L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick

A timeless formula with rich pigment and nourishing oils—classic red to nude and everything in between.

Why we love it: Feels like a luxury lipstick without the luxury price.

6. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer

A soothing, barrier-repairing cream that hydrates and calms all skin types—especially sensitive.

Why we love it: Dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free, and layers beautifully under SPF or makeup.

7. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Blends foundation seamlessly and lasts through dozens of washes.

Why we love it: Performs just as well (if not better) than pricier makeup sponges.

8. NYX Micro Brow Pencil

Precise, pigmented, and long-lasting—this brow pencil rivals Benefit’s famous Brow Wiz.

Why we love it: Slim tip for detail work + spoolie included. Under $15.

9. Essence Lash Princess Mascara

An internet favorite for good reason—this mascara gives major volume and lift without clumps.

Why we love it: $5 magic in a tube. No smudge. No flakes.

10. Olive & June Nail Polish

Salon-quality polish with an easy-to-use brush and long wear—available in modern, muted shades.

Why we love it: Chic nails on a budget? Yes, please.

Drugstore beauty works best when you know what to look for—focus on ingredients, performance, and what makes you feel confident and pulled together. Great style starts with great skin and simple, effective products.
