How to Choose a Signature Summer Cocktail

The Real Chic Life Guide to Sipping in Style

At The Real Chic Life, we love the idea of putting your personal stamp on things. We also believe that the secret to living beautifully is in the details, and that there’s nothing more beautiful than sharing the good things you create with others. If you’re a subscriber, you’ve seen posts about signature scents, signature candles, and even choosing a signature flower. So why not a summer cocktail?

One of the things I love about being on vacation is that even though I consider myself more of a social drinker (often opting for a mocktail) I do enjoy trying different island-inspired cocktails on vacation. Most of the resorts we’ve been to have a signature cocktail named for the island itself or a celebrity who hails from said place- hello, The Ziggy Marley. The good news is you won’t need a plane ticket to enjoy your signature cocktail (or mocktail) this season.

Summer is the season of sunlit gatherings, golden hour picnics, and rooftop evenings that stretch into starry nights. And what better way to toast the moment than with a cocktail that feels like you in a glass? Choosing a signature summer cocktail is part ritual, part self-expression—and totally chic.

Here’s how to find your perfect sip:

1. Know Your Flavor Profile

Start with what you naturally gravitate toward. Do you love tart and citrusy, floral and botanical, or rich and tropical?

  • If you like fresh and zesty, try a Grapefruit Paloma or a Classic Daiquiri (rum, lime, sugar).
  • For floral or herbal notes, a French 75 with elderflower or a Lavender Gin Fizz may be your match.
  • Fruity or tropical, more your vibe? Consider a Frozen Mango Margarita or Pineapple Mojito.

2. Consider the Occasion

Are you sipping poolside, hosting a backyard soirée, or planning a beach picnic?

  • For casual afternoons: something easy like a Spritz or Rosé Sangria.
  • For dressed-up dinners: a Negroni Sbagliato or Cucumber Martini feels refined.
  • For travel vibes in a glass: try a Caipirinha or Mai Tai.

3. Make It Pretty (and Instagrammable)

A signature cocktail should be as pretty as it is tasty. Think fresh garnishes, elegant glassware, and pops of color.

Add a personal touch with:

  • Edible flowers
  • Citrus twists or fruit skewers
  • A custom cocktail name (yes, like The Real Chic Refresher)

4. Match It to Your Style

A signature drink can complement your personal aesthetic—minimalist, bold, playful, or classic.

  • Love neutrals and understated elegance? Go for a White Linen cocktail or a Chardonnay Spritz.
  • More into vibrant fashion and fun accessories? Try a Strawberry Basil Smash or Blueberry Mojito.

5. Go Low-ABV or Non-Alcoholic If You Prefer

Chic doesn’t have to mean boozy. A signature mocktail like a Coconut Water Cooler, Cucumber Mint Tonic, or Sparkling Hibiscus Tea Spritz can be just as luxe.

Here are a few recipes you might want to try. Including one with Real Chic Life vibes.

Once you find the one, make it yours all season long. Sip it slowly, serve it at gatherings, and let it become your liquid calling card.

We’d love to hear about your favorite cocktails (or mocktails) too.

  2. I’m happy to hear that! The frozen Mango Margarita was a big hit at the last resort we stayed at. Try adding Tahini salt to the rim. 😋
