As the air gets crisp and leaves turn golden, it’s the perfect time to switch up your nail game. If you read my How to Look Put Together post you know that freshly done nails are part of my formula for a pulled-together look. I have a pretty good relationship with my manicurist—I’d dare say that we see each other so regularly that she has become a great friend. But you don’t have to be besties with your nail tech or visit a salon at all at-home manicures are fine too. It doesn’t matter who does it as long as you feel good when they’re done. I do have to confess that I haven’t been as trendy with shades and styles as my daughters have. So research for this post was as much for me and you. I tend to stick to a signature color- mine has been Bubble Bath for years. But this year I’ve been inspired to mix it up a little more: I’ve added Funny Bunny, and Big Apple Red to my rotation as well.
This fall, nail trends are all about cozy sophistication and bold statements. From rich hues to eye-catching textures, here’s a rundown of the top nail colors and styles to rock this season:
1. Moody and Mysterious: Deep, Dark Shades. Dark Nails are a fall classic, but they’re getting an upgrade this year. Look for rich shades like:

- Oxblood: A deep, vampy red perfect for chilly evenings.
- Midnight Blue: Adds a sophisticated touch to any outfit.
- Charcoal Gray: The new neutral that pairs effortlessly with fall fashion.
I’m wearing an Oxblood shade called Malaga Wine right now and I think it will be another go-to shade for me this fall/winter.
2. Earthy Neutrals: Minimalist Elegance

Neutral tones are stealing the spotlight with their understated beauty. Try:
- Taupe: A blend of beige and gray that suits all skin tones.
- Moss Green: A subtle nod to nature.
- Warm Sand: A soft beige with a hint of yellow warmth.
3. Golden Hour Hues: Warm and Cozy
Channel the glow of autumn sunsets with warm, radiant shades like:

- Burnt Orange: A pumpkin-spiced essential.
- Copper: Metallic with a touch of shimmer.
- Golden Mustard: Bold yet versatile for the season.
4. Jewel Tones: Luxe and Glamorous
Fall is the perfect time to experiment with jewel-toned nails. Consider:
- Emerald Green: A rich, regal shade.
- Amethyst Purple: A playful yet sophisticated color.
- Ruby Red: Classic with a touch of glam.
5. Texture Play: Matte, Metallic, and Velvet Finishes

It’s not just about the color this season; finishes matter too.
- Matte Topcoats: Perfect for dark or neutral shades.
- Metallic Polishes: Add dimension and sparkle.
- Velvet Textures: For a plush, luxurious look. Courtney’s Velvet nails are pictured above.
6. Nail Art Inspired by Nature
Leaf patterns, ombré effects, and earthy gradients are trending. Think subtle, nature-inspired designs that embrace the season’s beauty.
7. Seasonal Nail Care Tips
Fall weather can dry out nails, so don’t forget:
- Hydrate with cuticle oil daily.
- Use a strengthening base coat to prevent brittleness.
- Opt for quality polish to keep your manicure looking fresh.
This season is all about self-expression and embracing the cozy vibes of autumn. Whether you’re into minimalist designs or bold, statement-making shades, there’s a fall nail trend for everyone. What’s your favorite look for the season? Share your thoughts in the comments!
